I've never been a true believer in the zone defense, and I don't have statistical proof of this, but.....
It seems like there are more 100+ point games this year in the NBA.... the year they have changed the rules to allow zone defenses. Is there a connection?
Just a thought.

Why is it that if you don't shave for a few days, the subsequent shave is much closer and smoother than if you had shaved every day?
Two quick things....
I was shopping at the mall this weekend with my wife, when she pointed out that the mannequins in the store had nipples on them. We couldn't quite figure out why.
This morning my wife told me that the weather report on WWJ said that with the snow from today and tomorrow we could get "one to three inches, or two to four inches." Why not just say "one to four"????

I didn't discover this myself (and maybe it was more obvious to others), but Caddyshack's Danny Noonan (Michael O'Keefe) played Will Sawyer (The Reporter who got the Toby quote) on the episode of The West Wing that reran on Wednesday.
I still have this stuck in my head....
"We've got bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains and bargains galore"
This article might as well be titled "Toronto Raptors lose the rest of their games this season"
About 5-7 years ago, we were all enlightened by the name of a booster who had tarnished the UM name. Over the years, I've heard countless stories about what he did, and which players and/or coaches he may or may not have been involved with. Yet, over these years, I have never seen a picture of this man, which is odd, because whenever a news story breaks, the news usually has at least a high school yearbook photo of the person or something along those lines. I've seen countless articles, but no pictures. I even married someone with the same last name (no, I didn't marry her ONLY to find out who Ed Martin was.... they aren't even related!!!!!).
But finally, this morning......

I was thinking of all the expenses we have today (such as computers, internet service, cell phones, cable, etc.) and thought to myself that all of these are very recent things... within the last 20 years or so (as far as being widely available to all people). I wondered what did people do with their extra money that they weren't spending on their monthly bills for cable/internet/cell phones/etc.
This also brings me back to a question I have had for awhile.... how do they introduce new money? For example, if you took all the money in the world in 1950, and compared it to all the money in the world right now, there would be more money now than in 1950, right? So where did that money come from?
This is a hard discussion to have a blog, but if you're answer is that it comes from the mint, well, how do they introduce that new money into the economy? Whenever I think I'm starting to understand it, I get all confused.
Speaking of commercial jingles (see comments to Goalieman's March 15th blog), I keep getting the commercial for Ontario travel stuck in my head, where there are peoples karaoke (sp?) to Shania Twain's "Come On Over".... especially the parts with the Leafs fan with his arms in the air, and the Mounty (isn't that what they call those police officers?) at the end going "OOOoooOoOoooOOOoOOOoooO OOOoOoooOOoooOOOoooOOoo"
You would think it would be more man-apealing commercial if they actually had Shania on the commercial. But they must not have been in it for love, and she was outta there (she can play the snare drum, too!!!)

Saturday night, Chicago won a double overtime game at Houston. I know, you're probably wondering why I was watching the Chicago/Houston game.... I was just so into basktball, that I was flipping back and forth between the Piston's game and the Bulls game. Here's why I bring it up. Jalen Rose made a "buzzer beater" to win the game, but the replay clearly showed that the ball was still in his hand when the clock hit 0.0
Numerous times in college games, they have gone to the replay for such plays, but why didn't they do this in the NBA game? Not that I'm unhappy. I am kind of rooting for the Bulls (what, did i just say that?) with Jalen and Jamal being former UMers.
Another thing I noticed is that Bill Cartwright looks younger now than he did when he played.

ja!!!!! Pennsylvania has a player named Koko Archibong
For those who don't understand "ja", in our Spanish books in high school, they had little cartoons, and when people in the cartoons laughed, it was written "ja, ja, ja" because in Spanish, the 'j' has an 'h' sound (as in 'jalapeno', although if you're me, you pronounce 'jalapeno' with the english 'j' sound).
Rudi's Pottery sell silverware, plates, glasses, etc. We ordered items from there to complete our sets that we didn't receive from our wedding. We hadn't received our shipment yet, so I called them to find out the status of the order. The guy at customer service who took my call, Kevin, was very nice and friendly. He checked on the order immediately, and since it was being shipped directly from the manufacturer, he would need to contact them. He told me that he need to check on something and would get back to me, notifying me that it might take until Monday, since the people at the manufacturer usually are gone by 3:30 on Friday. I said, "No problem."
Five minutes later, Kevin called me back, and let me know that the shipment was being held up because some of the items were on backorder, and asked if I wanted the items that were in stock to be shipped. I said, "sure."
He apologized for the delay, and thanked me for my patience.
Now why is it that some companies just don't understand the importance of customer service. The reason that we went to this site in the first place was because it was such a hassle getting items through JCPenny. For our future needs in the kitchen, I think we will be doing our business at rudispottery.com, and I would recommend their site to you, too.
Not only were they nice, their prices were better, and shipping was even better. They charge $6 for shipping for orders under $75, and free shipping for orders over $75.
THANKS RUDI'S POTTERY!!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!!!
There are now 3 commercials (maybe more that I haven't seen yet) that do a "cross-decade" montage-type thing. It all started with the Britney Spears ad for Pepsi during the Super Bowl. Then lately I've seen the Shaq ad for Burger King that does something similar. Last night I saw the same idea used for (I think it was) Mercedes.
The worst part is, I don't think the idea behind the ads is all that great.
I had sent this link to some people a long time ago, and just found it while going through some old mail, and thought I would share.
Look at the gray box to the right, and read the third bullet. Apparently it wasn't clear that this shouldn't be done, and they had to formally put a ban on this.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.... I'll never understand fashion....
Aparently babies are now fashion accessories for fashion shows
(and Russ, I was just looking at the Yahoo News/Entertainment photos, and stumbled across this.... I don't regualarily check the fashion show photos)
Michigan has a new law that allows underaged passengers to be legally intoxicated, if they were intoxicated in Canada. Previously, the no-tolerance law would give an MIP to anyone under 21 (driver or passenger) with a blood alcohol level of (i may be wrong, but i think it was) .02.
So now, if you are under 21, and a passenger of a car, and you are intoxicated, as long as you say that you were intoxicated in Canada, you're ok.
In other news.....I was trying to decide today.....Is it worse to find a bug or a hair in you food?

Well, I can't pick the right team for the BTT, maybe my luck will change...
I know all you Red Wings fans were worried, but the Wings have mathematically clinched a playoff spot, although i haven't seen any standings listed that indicates this. So the Wings could lose all the rest of their games, and still get in the playoffs.
Still trying to think of a quality post.....
Friday, March 08, 2002
I'm trying to come up with more QUALITY posts, Rather than QUANTITY, but all I can think of this morning is sports, sports, sports, and sports. (here comes the quantity)
Lions signed Hakim yesterday. I can't say that I'm excited... I know he's fast, but that's not everything. I know height isn't everything either, but the Lions have cut 6-4 Moore and 6-3 Crowell, and picked up 5-10 Hakim. It appears that Moore is winding down his career, but I think letting Crowell go somewhere else, and signing Hakim is going to come back and bite the Lions
I watched the Pistons again last night. Another close battle. I've liked John Barry all season, but after hearing him on the Lockerroom yesterday, and watching the game last night, he's my favorite Piston (not that I had a favorite before). In the last few minutes, i kept thinking, "they should get it to Barry", even though it kept going to Stackhouse, who would inevitably shoot the ball. And then, who did that last shot go to? Barry, drains it at the buzzer. Now I know it wasn't very sportsman-like to tell the crowd to "Go home" and "get out of here" after draining the shot, but I have to guess that he was provoked in some sort of way.
I wonder if John Barry is the only NBA player without a tattoo on his arm.
While listening to the Lockerroom yesterday on my ride home, somewhere around 4:30-ish (give or take 15 mins), they reported the terms of the deal of the Hakim contract. Fanball.com had it posted on their website yesterday at 2:47 PM.
Not sure why i'm on the "look-a-like" kick, but Damon Perry and Doug Collins???

Here is another reason why I don't understand fashion.....
This is supposed ot be a visor....My question is.... what do you do when it's sunny??? zip it up?? Then you can't see
And the cross dangling on your nose??? That's not going to get annoying really quick.

I didn't actually watch 24 last night, but i did catch about 5-10 minutes while channel flipping during the Pistons' game. While he was talking on the phone with ??? (his wife), and they had the split screen thing going, with the two shots squares and the black background, i couldn't help but think of the Oompa Loompa songs in Willy Wonka. I couldn't stop laughing, and had a hard time taking it seriously, so I flipped back to the Pistons' game. I'm not saying I didn't like it... I just didn't see enough of it to get me interested.

Kevin Meaney was arrested for some security thing at an airport.... that's not why i'm posting this.... i'm posting this because the article refers to Kevin Meaney appearing with Tom Hanks in the 1988 hit "Big". That's like saying Kevin Costner appeared with Michael Keaton and Henry Winkler in "Night Shift"
Coming soon to a theatre near you..... E.T. III - The Same Thing, Yet Again
(Credit for this joke goes to an old episode of NNTN on HBO, many years ago.... slightly modified above)
I gave up non-prime time tv for lent.... i know that it doesn't sound all that difficult, but it's amazing how many times i've gone for the remote to turn on the tv to catch one of the many reruns i usually catch between 5-8. I've just realize this will become more difficult as we come to March Madness, with all the conference tournaments this week, and the big dance starting next week.
I have made exceptions on the weekends.... I will watch something if it is something specific, but I won't turn on the TV just to flip around and see what's on.
Not that you give a care about this, it's just the first thing that has popped in my head this morning.
Apparently Cris Carter is looking to go to the Rams, and Green Bay is interested in Terry Glenn. Carter is just looking for a championship, and Glenn, I'm not sure I will believe the "fresh start" theory. OK, I was going to comment more, but that's enough talk about OSU for one day.
Alton Brown has a scheduled stop in Ann Arbor during his book tour for his new book "I'm just here for the food". He will be there on Friday, June 21.

Is it just me, or do have I started a lot of blogs lately with "is it me"???
Seriously, though, is it me, or is there a ton more teams dumping players this year in the NFL? It seems like there is a ton more than usual (yes, i basically just repeated myself).
Why do i have the feeling the Detroit is going to lose out, yet again, and a giant pool of awesome free agents.
blah blah blah, what do i know.
Why is it when I go to Sam's club, I feel compelled to go down every aisle, even if I KNOW that there is nothing down that aisle that I want or need??
